This book is one of the rarest and most sought-after architectural publications of our time, and also one of the most lavishly printed art books in post-revolutionary Russia. Chernikov was a constructivist architect. His books on architecture, published between 1927 and 1933, are among the most innovative of the time. His "101 Architectural Fantasies," published in 1933, are among the last avant-garde books published in Russia during the Stalin era. His extraordinary ideas aroused suspicion. Although he was allowed to continue teaching and lecturing, hardly any of his designs were realized. One of Chernikov's few surviving buildings is the tower of the "Red Carnation Factory" in St. Petersburg. A beautiful copy of this extremely rare publication. - MoMA 1022.
