Schwitters, Kurt

The Cathedral. 8 lithographs by Kurt Schwitters.

Hanover, Paul Steegemann 1920.

22.5 x 14 cm. With 8 original lithographs (including cover) by Kurt Schwitters, 1 sheet of publisher's advertisements. Illustrated original brochure with original closure strip. - One of the most important publications of the Dada movement. Schwitters had the white closure strip with the inscription "Sealed for sanitary reasons. Caution: Anti-Dada. Please return broken copies" added after his rejection and the scandal at the first International Dada Fair in June 1920. The 8 original lithographs of the cathedral are undoubtedly the most beautiful and original that Schwitters created during this period and deserve a place of honor in the history of modern graphic art. A fine copy, the closure strip on the reverse has slight paper loss, as is often the case. - Die Silbergäule, Volumes 41-42. - Meyer 38. - Dada Global 124. - Wilpert/Gühring 2/2.
