Salzburg Pericope Book.

Facsimile of the manuscript Clm 15713 from the Bavarian State Library in Munich. 2 volumes (facsimile and commentary volume).

Lucerne, Facsimile Publishing 1997

38.5 x 30 cm. 140 pages. With 19 gilt miniatures, 70 ornate initials decorated with gold, and countless small gold initials in the text. Dark red goatskin leather binding with metal clasps and twelve inset replicas of the ivory tablets. In an acrylic glass case. One of only 180 numbered copies of the deluxe edition with the inset replicas of the twelve ivory tablets. The material for the delicate replicas of the ivory tablets was developed specially for this edition; its specific weight corresponds to that of real ivory. The Salzburg Pericope Book from the time of Emperor Henry II (c. 1020) is a magnificent example of Ottonian book art. The manuscript was probably created in Salzburg. The 19 gilt miniatures are of exquisite quality, as are the 70 ornate initials decorated with gold, as well as the countless smaller gold initials. This special edition was painstakingly handcrafted. The original price from the publisher was €16,800, and it has long been out of print. It is in immaculate condition and still in its original box.
