Rilke, Rainer Maria

The Twenty-Four Sonnets of Louïze Labé. Lyonese. 1555. Translated by Rainer Maria Rilke

Hamburg, Oda Weitbrecht Press 1928

30 x 21 cm. 24 pages. Bibliophile fine hardback with spine title. Printed by Oda Weitbrecht Presse, Hamburg. Proof on laid paper, noted by Oda Weitbrecht in the imprint. According to the printer's imprint, only 12 parchment copies were printed, none of which have been found. Presumably, this proof on laid paper was only published in this one copy. Rainer Maria Rilke was severely criticized for his translations of Louïze Labé's 24 sonnets. His friends, in turn, gave him the recognition and praise he deserved. An extraordinary rarity. Not listed in any Rilke bibliography. Immaculately preserved.
