Mann, Heinrich
The Branzilla. With 7 signed original etchings by Hans Meid
Munich, Kurt Wolff Verlag, 1925
27.4 x 19.5 cm. 57 pages. Original purple morocco binding with spine title, gold cover vignette, gilt edges, and gilt head edges. One of 20 numbered copies of the special edition in purple morocco. Only 100 copies were published in 1925 by Kurt Wolff Verlag, Munich. The seven original drypoint etchings were signed by Hans Meid. With Branzilla, Heinrich Mann succeeds in creating a satirical portrayal of what it means to live for art. The young opera singer Adelaida Branzilla has a voice like that of an angel, but her looks win her few sympathizers. However, Dario Rupa lies at her feet, and she takes advantage of his offer to advance her career. The delicate morocco binding is in immaculate condition. Jentsch 475-481. Zenker 35.3.
