19.3 x 12.9 cm. 8 pages. Original parchment binding with thread binding. In original slipcase. One of only four copies of the special edition on parchment, printed from the handwritten version. Title and press mark in red. In 24 stanzas, Goethe describes in the first person how the protagonist, after a long absence from home, is delayed on his return journey by a carriage break-down. In the inn where he has found lodging, he meets a maid who is willing to spend a night of love with him. One of the great rarities of the Officina Serpentis. Immaculately preserved. Backe/Köppen 142.
