30.5 x 21.5 cm. 75 pages. Original yellow morocco binding on 6 ribs, spine and box gilt, rich fillet gilt on the covers and gilt edges. (Signed Officina Bodoni). Printed by Officina Bodoni and one of 12 copies of the special edition in yellow morocco. The text follows the Weimar Sophienausgabe and was hand-printed on Fabriano laid paper. Goethe experienced the Roman Carnival twice. His apartment at the time was in the Corso, not far from the Piazza del Popolo, and from the second floor of the building he could observe everything that was happening in the street below.
