Gavarni, (Paul).

Fourberies de Femmes. En matière de sentiment. 2e series. 52 colored original lithographs.

(Paris), Imp. d'Aubert & Cie. around 1840.

34 x 26 cm. Light red, contemporary half-leather binding. "Fourberies de Femme" is one of Gavarni's most important graphic series, and is presented here in a complete copy. The 52 original lithographs are contemporary colored, gouached, and tempered, and include all captions. There is no medium, in fact, that brings out the colors better. Gavarni created witty and ironic depictions of Parisian society and is considered one of the masters of 19th-century French lithography. From 1837 to 1848, he worked for the satirical magazine "Le Charivari." Immaculately preserved.
