As with the magnificent red and gold binding of the Insel Verlag "Zarathustra Edition" designed by van de Velde and executed by Dorfner, the cover ornamentation follows the binding divisions and divides the cover vertically into segments corresponding to the bindings. Printed on heavy "van Gelder Zonen" hand-made paper with the Dietrich lion as a watermark. Rudolf Koch (1876-1934) worked in Offenbach from 1906 at the Rudhard type foundry, later known as Gebr. Klingspor. Leading book publishers soon became aware of his skills. Eugen Dietrich entrusted him with the typographic design of several books. Koch's then-groundbreaking Fraktur typeface, the so-called "German Script," was used here for the first time. Rudolf Koch also designed the endpapers.
