Each of the seven full-page original lithographs was signed by Max Beckmann. First edition of the famous drama, signed by the author in the imprint. The play by Stephan Lackner (originally E. G. Morgenroth) was written as early as 1934. In 1936, the author commissioned Max Beckmann to illustrate the final version of the drama. "I really liked your drama. I would have liked to discuss the book design, including the illustrations, in more detail, but perhaps that isn't necessary. You'll do a great job, and some things can still be discussed, like the binding, etc." quoted from a letter from Max Beckmann to Stephan Lackner. Immaculately preserved. Extremely rare in this form. - Hofmaier 323-29 A. - Gallwitz 287. - Jentsch 168. - Schauer, Vol. II, 117
