Original red morocco binding with spine title on 5 frets, gold vignette on the cover, fillets, gilt lettering on the top and inside edges, and gilt head edges. (Signed: Schnabel, Berlin). -- 4th Phantasus print, one of 200 numbered copies. The Genzsch & Heyse type foundry, Hamburg, supplied the Elzevir Antiqua, which was newly cast for this book. Cupid and Psyche is an episode from the satirical novel "The Golden Ass." There are two adaptations of the novel. Possible adaptors include Lucius Apuleius of Madaura or Lucian of Samosata. The imprint is signed by the artist. Immaculately preserved. - Rodenberg 457-458.
