Albers, Joseph
Interaction of Color. (The Interaction of Color). 2 volumes.
Starnberg 1973
Folio. Text and commentary volume. 47.78 pages and 81 folded color double plates. In original box. Josef Albers studied and taught at the Bauhaus in Dessau, going into exile in 1933. In the 1950s, he headed the Art Department at Yale University. At the end of his teaching career, he dedicated his most important and famous work on color theory to his students: "This Book is my Thanks to my Students." The work describes the artist's experimental methods of studying and teaching color. It is the most significant contribution in 20th-century art to the visual perception and application of color in the spirit of Goethe. Albers is considered one of the most important art educators of the 20th century. Around 185 teaching examples are presented as the precise results of countless experimental color investigations. Every single color of the 81 folding plates included in the work corresponds to the proofs reviewed and approved by Josef Albers and was produced using silkscreen printing. A very fine example.
